UFBA Leadership and Governance Workshop
6 – 8 September

INTRODUCTION

The United Fire Brigades’ Association Board and Management are embarking on a programme to grow the leadership and governance resource in our organisation. This workshop is one in a series of similar workshops being held to achieve this objective.

Set out below is a brief information summary of the workshop.

THE WORKSHOP

This will comprise two sections. These are:

1. Leadership Development
This will be the largest section of the workshop (2 days) and there will be a focus on three modules:

  • Self-awareness and developing a leadership style
  • Innovation, consensus building and decision making
  • Team culture and dynamics, including a brief coverage of coaching.

2. Introduction to Governance
The purpose of this part of the course is to introduce participants to the key elements of governance, providing principles and practical guidance about:

  • People – having the right people doing the right things at the right time
  • Purpose and strategy – its importance and the role of the board
  • Key governance issues and what to do about them
  • Processes and Systems – how it all works
  • Structure – the UFBA legal framework
